DHS Hosts Hands-On CTE Exploration for 8th Graders

DHS recently welcomed 116 eighth-grade students for a four-day Career and Technical Education (CTE) exploration experience.

The program gave students an early look at high-skill, high-demand career pathways while connecting classroom learning to real-world applications.

Students rotated through 10 programs of study, including JROTC, Culinary Arts, Engineering, Automotive Technology, Welding, Agriculture, Biomedical Science, Fire Science, Computer Science, and Digital Game Development. Along the way, they worked directly with high school instructors and student leaders, learning about career options, employability skills, and student leadership organizations such as FFA, HOSA, and SkillsUSA.

The district extends its appreciation to the Douglas High School teachers and staff who led the sessions, as well as the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District for hosting Fire Science activities at George Whittell High School. Thank you also to the Nevada Department of Transportation for showcasing a 2024 snowplow and sharing workforce development opportunities.

This experience helps students see how their education connects to future careers as they prepare for high school. DCSD looks forward to seeing these students continue exploring career pathways as they plan their high school coursework.
