DHS JROTC Aerial Drone Program Off to Award-Winning Start

DHS's JROTC Aerial Drone Program, in partnership with the REC Foundation, kicked off the 2025–2026 season with strong momentum. Although the program only began in December 2025, students are already making their mark in competition.

In just their first two events, DHS teams earned the Judge’s Choice Award and placed in the top 10 out of 50 teams both times. For a brand new program, that kind of start says a lot about the students’ commitment, teamwork, and willingness to put in the work.

The program is led by Chief Joe Sherych and Master Sergeant Ryan Davidson, whose guidance and steady support have helped students build both technical skills and confidence. Under their leadership, students are learning how to problem solve, communicate effectively, and compete at a high level.

Centered on STEM opportunities, the drone program gives students hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, and math in a setting that feels relevant and exciting. With strong district support, plans are already in motion to expand the program to the middle school level by the 2026–2027 season, creating even more opportunities for students to get involved early.
