Work Experience and Internships

A structured learning experience that integrates work site experiences with classroom instruction. Through work-based learning, students gain employability and occupational skills while applying and advancing their knowledge in an academic areas.

 

Job Shadowing—a one-time, half day career awareness activity

  • A student spends time one-on-one with an employee observing daily activities and asking questions about the job and workplace.
  • Provides a student with an opportunity to ask questions about the job, the company, and the career field or pathway; to tour the company; and if possible, to engage in a hands-on activity.
  • Work-place field trips, "on-line" virtual job shadowing, and a library of career videos are also available to students.

 

Internship Programs

  • Internships provide a chance to Junior and Senior students to explore the day-to-day work involved in a specific career.
  • Students earn school credit, a grade on their transcripts, and the opportunity to advance knowledge and skills while spending 90 hours per semester in a business environment related to their educational/ career plans. Internship Form: This is the internship form (Click Here)

 

Cooperative Occupational Education—Work Experience

  • Junior and Senior students with diverse employment positions earn pass/fail credit for the minimum of 120 documented hours of work experience each semester.
  • Students are encouraged to seek entry-level jobs in a field related to their academic or occupational objectives.
  • A forum is available to discuss work-place issues such as communication, work habits, attitude, ethics, conflict management, motivation, and problem solving
