The DHS Common Application is often referred to as the DHS CAP. For most local scholarships you will be able to use the Douglas High School Common Application Packet. Follow these steps when completing the common application:

Be sure to create a simple cover sheet for each scholarship which shows your name and the name of the scholarship you are applying for.

Use only ONE staple to secure your entire packet. If you have parts stapled together, such as letters of rec or autobiography, take out these extra staples before the final staple.

DO NOT (1) use a paperclip, a binder clip, or other such fastener; (2) use a folder, plastic sheet protector, or other covering for your packet.

Put your packet in the following order: cover, CAP form, autobiography, letters of rec, transcript.
Many need-based scholarships require completion of the FASFA.
Many states and colleges set priority deadlines by which you must submit the FAFSA form to be considered for the aid programs they administer. There is also a federal deadline each academic year.
Scholarship help is available every Wednesday and Thursday during lunch in DHS room 302. Bring your resume and get help building your CAP or fill out an organization specific application for scholarships. Printing is available.

Local scholarships are open to Douglas High School or Douglas County graduates specifically. These are provided by local businesses and organizations to help our students who qualify based on the sponsoring organization's requirements.
Many of our local donors use the Douglas High School Common Application Packet. See this side-bar section for help assembling your CAP with an autobiography, three letters of recommendation, transcript, and general information form.

If you are a business or organization interested in offering a local scholarship, contact scholarship@dcsd.k12.nv.us to join the list of local scholarships offered to Douglas High School students.
Local scholarships may be turned in to DHS room 302 before school, at lunch, or after school. Please do not turn in applications during passing or class periods.

- Students must sign in each application for each scholarship they apply for. This process takes a couple minutes, therefore, please plan to turn in applications before school, at lunch, or after school.
Scholarship award night will be held at LifePoint Church at 6pm on May 24, 2023. LifePoint is located 1095 Stephanie Way, Minden, NV 89423. Students receiving an award will be invited by letter delivered to 5th period by May 17.
Following announcement of your award, students are expected to write a thank you and provide their school/program information to the sponsoring organization.
Scholarship money will be mailed directly to the school you indicate on your information form. Please return your student information form directly to your donor or drop off in room 302 by June 2, 2023.
If you are applying for several scholarships, consider writing down and tracking the important details for each of the different scholarships. Use this "My Scholarships" planner to help you get started. Remember, it is helpful to have your application completed at least a week before it is due to fix any issues that arise with your application.

1. ESSAY: The essay should discuss your interest in your major area of study and areas of specialization and the occupation you propose to pursue after graduation. What are your long term goals and how do you hope to achieve them? The essay may also include any other information that is relevant to your career plans. Details: The Brooks Family Scholarship aims to help students that are motivated to build a successful

• The student should present at least THREE letters of recommendation in support of his/her potential success in post-high school education.
• Interested and qualified students should complete the scholarship application form available at the counseling office and on the Carson Valley Sertoma website, meeting the established criteria and deadline for submission.
• Finalist must be willing to be interviewed for the CARSON VALLEY SERTOMA MEMORIAL BOOK SCHOLARSHIP.
• If awarded the scholarship, the student must be willing to attend the Carson Valley Sertoma Scholarship Breakfast in May.
Award: A four-year renewable scholarship for textbooks. This scholarship will be paid in renewable increments each semester.

Jim Summers grew up in the Carson Valley. He graduated from Douglas High School in 1952 and was an All-State football and basketball player. In 1952, in a home game against Stewart, Jim scored 70 points in a single game which still stands as a Nevada single game scoring record.
